As the clocks go back and the dark nights set in statistics show a 20% increase in burglaries*. With this in mind, now is the ideal time to enhance your home security.
By following a few simple security measures you can help protect your home from the opportunist burglar that is on the lookout for easy targets.
Keep curtains and blinds shut at night! Make sure items such as car keys, laptops, tablets, phones and cash cannot be seen through windows - night (or day)!
If you have a burglar alarm always remember to switch it on when you leave the house or when you go to bed - Not surprisingly 60% of burglaries attempted on homes with alarm systems fail*.
Always lock doors and windows even when you’re at home.
If you are going out try to make your home look occupied by using devices like timer switches to control lights or a Fake TV to deter would-be thieves.
We hope that you find these tips useful and encourage you to share them with your family, friends and collegues.
As always please remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately to the police on 999 if a crime is in progress, 101 in a non-emergency or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
